# Check your resume before you apply

Find out how your resume performs before you send it to an employer.

Resumeon reads your resume the way an applicant tracking system does, scores five areas out of 100, and shows you exactly where the structure needs work. Two checks a day are free and no account is required.

## How the ATS checker works

Upload your resume or paste the text, and Resumeon runs the same five checks it runs for members.

1. **Upload or select your resume** Check a PDF or DOCX up to 5 MB, paste your resume as plain text, or open a resume you have already built in Resumeon.
2. **Resumeon runs five checks** Your resume is read and scored across contact details, professional summary, skills, work experience, and education. Each one is judged in context rather than matched against a word list.
3. **Get your ATS score** The five section scores combine into one overall score out of 100, weighted so that work experience and skills count for the most.
4. **Review your issues** The report separates what is already working from what needs attention, and orders the fixes by how much they are likely to move your score.
5. **Fix your resume** Where an issue maps to a section of the editor, Fix in editor takes you straight to it inside the app instead of leaving you to hunt for it.
6. **Check again** Make your edits and run the check again. Re-running is how you find out whether a change actually helped, rather than assuming it did.

## What Resumeon checks

An applicant tracking system does not read your resume the way a person does. It pulls out the text layer, then tries to sort that text into fields. These five areas decide whether it succeeds.

- **Contact information**: Checks that a real name, email address, phone number, location, and profile link exist in the text layer and sit where a parser looks for them. Details trapped in a page header, a footer, or an image are invisible to the parser even though you can see them perfectly.
- **Professional summary**: Reads your opening paragraph and judges whether it says what you bring to a specific kind of role. A generic career objective scores low, a summary written around the work you actually do scores high, and no summary at all scores nothing.
- **Skills section**: Looks for the tools, technologies, and skills of your field, presented under a heading a parser recognizes as skills. Abilities mentioned only inside a sentence buried in your experience are much easier for a parser to miss.
- **Work experience**: Checks that each role carries a job title, an employer, and dates in a consistent format, and that the bullets underneath describe what you did and what changed because of it. This section carries the most weight in the overall score.
- **Education**: Checks for a clearly labelled education section with your qualification, the institution, and a graduation year. A missing year is one of the most common reasons this section scores below what the candidate expects.

## What your ATS score means

Your score is a quick read on how the five checks went together. The verdict shown with it is the same one the app uses.

- **75 to 100: ATS Ready**: Your resume meets the key checks and is structured clearly enough that a parser should read it the way you intend.
- **50 to 74: Needs Work**: Some sections are working and others are not. There are specific improvements worth making before you send this to an employer.
- **Below 50: Not ATS Ready**: A parser will likely drop or scramble important parts of your resume. Fixing the flagged issues matters more here than any wording change.

> The score is a diagnostic measure. It tells you whether a machine can read and index your resume correctly, and it does not predict whether an employer will shortlist you or make you an offer.

## What an ATS-friendly resume looks like

Design and parse safety pull in opposite directions. The layouts below carry the same information, and only one of them survives being read by a machine.

- **Clear reading order**: One column, top to bottom. A parser flattens the page into a single stream of text, so a two-column layout can interleave your job titles with your skills list and produce nonsense.
- **Recognizable section headings**: Work Experience, Education, and Skills, spelled the ordinary way. A heading like My Journey or What I Bring reads well to a person and matches nothing a parser is looking for.
- **Contact details in the body**: Your name, email, phone number, and links belong in the first lines of the document itself, not in the page header region that many parsers never extract.
- **Selectable text**: Your content has to be real text. A resume exported as an image, or scanned from paper, has no text layer at all, which is the single most common reason a resume scores near zero.
- **Consistent roles and dates**: One date format throughout, and the same title, employer, dates ordering in every entry. Consistency is what lets a parser work out where one role ends and the next begins.

## Build your resume and check it in the same place

You do not have to write your resume in one tool and then move it somewhere else to find out whether it works.

- **Start from 19 templates**: Every template is a single-column, standard-heading layout built to stay readable to both a person and a parser, including a Japanese rirekisho.
- **Add your experience**: Enter your roles, education, skills, and summary as structured fields, so the export is consistent by construction rather than by hand.
- **See it as you build**: The live preview shows the finished document while you edit, so you are never guessing what the PDF will look like.
- **Export a real PDF**: The full PDF export works on the free plan with nothing held back from the document. Free exports carry a small Resumeon footer line, and Pro removes it.
- **Check, fix, and check again**: Run the check, work through the issues, use Fix in editor to jump to the right section, and re-run it to confirm the score moved.

## Our approach to ATS checking

Resumeon is built to help you understand and improve your resume, not to promise a hiring outcome.

- **Five checks, one score**: The checker scores five defined areas and combines them into a single number, so you can see both the headline and where it came from.
- **Based on your resume**: Every judgement comes from the document you submit. Nothing is inferred from a profile, a job title, or an industry average.
- **Recommendations you can act on**: Issues are ordered by impact and tied to a specific edit, so the report ends with something to do rather than a list of observations.
- **A diagnostic, not a guarantee**: Different employers run different ATS platforms and different hiring processes. This score identifies the structural faults that break parsing in general, and it cannot simulate any one vendor's parser.

## Built from real job-search experience

The idea behind Resumeon came from firsthand experience with resumes, job applications, applicant tracking systems, and interview preparation.

The product is operated by Code Crafters Solution, a registered business based in Surat, Gujarat, India.

That experience still shapes what gets built: give job seekers clearer information about their resumes, and practical ways to improve them before applying rather than after the rejection.

## Frequently asked questions

### What is an ATS resume checker?

An applicant tracking system stores and sorts the resumes an employer receives, and it has to convert your file into structured fields before it can do either. An ATS resume checker looks at your resume for the things that break that conversion, such as missing contact details, unrecognizable section headings, or content that is not real text.

### What does Resumeon's ATS checker check?

Five areas: contact information, professional summary, skills, work experience, and education. Each is scored on its own and the five combine into your overall score, weighted so that work experience and skills carry the most.

### What is a good ATS score?

Seventy five or above is ATS Ready, fifty to seventy four Needs Work, and below fifty is Not ATS Ready. Most resumes that have never been checked land in the middle band.

### What files can I check?

A PDF or DOCX up to 5 MB, or plain text pasted into the box. A scanned or image-only PDF has no text layer to read, which is itself the most common reason a resume scores near zero with a real applicant tracking system.

### Is the ATS checker free?

Yes. Two checks a day per visitor, with no account and nothing to install. Creating a free account lifts the daily limit and unlocks the parts the public version holds back, which are the three remaining section scores and the specific fix behind each issue.

### Can I fix the issues inside Resumeon?

Yes, for a resume built in Resumeon. Where an issue maps to a section of the editor, Fix in editor links straight to that section, so you can make the change and re-run the check without leaving the app.

### Why did my beautifully designed resume score badly?

Design and parse safety pull in opposite directions. Columns, text boxes, tables, icons, and header blocks all look good to a person and confuse a parser. A single column with plain headings scores far better and still reads well.

### Are Resumeon templates ATS-friendly?

All 19 use a single-column structure, standard section headings, and selectable text, which are the things that make a resume straightforward to parse. A template cannot make thin content strong, so the checker still has something useful to tell you.

### Does a high ATS score guarantee an interview?

No. The score measures whether a machine can read and index your resume correctly. It cannot judge whether your experience fits the role, which is what a recruiter decides once your resume is parsed and surfaced.

### Is my resume stored?

Not when you use the checker without an account. The text is analyzed and discarded, and the file itself is never written to disk. Resumes you create inside a Resumeon account are saved to that account, because that is the point of the account.
