## What this ATS checker looks at

An applicant tracking system does not read your resume the way a person does. It extracts the text layer, then tries to sort that text into fields. Five sections decide whether it succeeds, and each is read and scored in context rather than matched against a word list.

- **Contact details**: Checks that a real email address, phone number, location, and profile link exist in the text layer and sit where a parser looks for them. Details trapped in a header, a footer, or an image are invisible to the parser even though you can see them.
- **Professional summary**: Reads your opening paragraph and judges whether it says what you bring to a specific kind of role. A generic objective scores low, a summary written around the work you actually do scores high, and no summary at all scores nothing.
- **Skills section**: Finds the skills you list and weighs them for specificity, not just count. This block carries more keyword weight than any other part of a resume, and ten concrete tools beat twenty soft-skill adjectives.
- **Work experience**: Reads every bullet and separates duties from achievements. A bullet with an action verb and a number counts; "responsible for the team inbox" does not. Undated roles and one-line jobs are marked down too.
- **Education**: Checks for a qualification spelled out in full, the institution, and a date. Abbreviations on their own are easy for a parser to miss, and a partially filled entry scores well below a complete one.
- **Keywords, issues, and fixes**: Beyond the five scores, the analysis lists the strong keywords already working for you, the role-relevant ones missing, and every issue it found with the exact edit that resolves it. Those are the parts a free account unlocks.

## How it works

1. **Add your resume** Drop in a PDF or DOCX, or paste the text. Your browser pulls out the text layer using the same extraction an applicant tracking system performs, then sends just that text to be analysed.
2. **Get your score** Five sections are read and scored, then combined into a single number out of 100 with a verdict and a count of the issues found. It takes a few seconds and you can watch each check as it runs.
3. **Fix what it found** Create a free account to see every issue with the exact edit that resolves it, then rebuild the resume in the editor and re-check it.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is this ATS checker really free?

Yes. Two checks a day are free with no account and no card, and each one gives you the score, the verdict, your contact and summary results in full, and a count of the issues found. Creating a free account lifts the daily limit and unlocks the remaining section scores, the fix behind every issue, and the keyword analysis.

### Why only two checks a day?

Every check runs a real AI analysis, which costs us money each time, so two per day per visitor keeps the tool free for everyone without a sign-up wall in front of it. A free account removes the daily limit.

### Is my resume uploaded anywhere?

Your file is not. Your browser opens it and pulls out the text, and only that text is sent to be analysed. It is used for your score and then discarded: nothing about your resume is written to our database, and there is no account for it to be attached to.

### Does this use AI?

Yes, and it is the same analysis Resumeon runs for signed-in members: the same model, the same scoring rubric, the same verdict thresholds. The free version simply shows you part of the result. Because a language model reads your resume in context rather than matching a word list, two runs of the same resume can differ by a point or two.

### What is a good ATS score?

Seventy five or above is ATS Ready, fifty to seventy four needs work, and below fifty means a parser will likely drop or scramble important parts of your resume. Most resumes that have never been checked land in the middle band.

### Which file formats can I check?

PDF and DOCX, up to 5 MB, or plain text pasted into the box. A scanned or image-only PDF has no text layer to read, which is itself the single most common reason a resume scores zero with a real applicant tracking system.

### Why did my beautifully designed resume score badly?

Design and parse safety pull in opposite directions. Columns, text boxes, tables, icons, and header blocks all look good to a human and confuse a parser. A single column with plain headings scores far better and still reads well.

### Does a high score guarantee an interview?

No. The score measures whether a machine can read and index your resume correctly. It cannot judge whether your experience fits the role, which is what a recruiter decides once your resume is actually parsed and surfaced.
