A resume is a dense block of personal data. There are several ordinary situations where you want the content without the identity attached.
Asking strangers for feedback
Resume critique communities are genuinely useful, but people post full resumes with a phone number and home address visible to anyone, permanently and publicly. Redact first and you get the same feedback with none of the exposure.
Blind and anonymous hiring
Some employers and programmes ask for a resume with identifying details removed so the first screen is on content alone. Doing that by hand in a PDF is tedious and easy to get wrong.
Sharing an internal example
Handing a colleague or a mentee a real resume as a worked example, without handing over the person's contact details along with it.
Screenshots and portfolios
If you write about hiring, teach, or run a careers service, you often need a realistic resume on a slide. A redacted one is safe to show.
What gets removed
Email addresses, phone numbers with nine or more digits, links and profile URLs, street addresses and postal codes, plus any names or custom terms you list. Each category can be toggled off.
What survives on purpose
Dates, durations, and figures like "7 years" or "2018" are left alone. They are the substance of a resume, and a redactor that eats them gives you something nobody can usefully review.

Frequently asked questions
Is my resume uploaded to a server?
No, and this is the one tool where that matters most. Both the file reading and the redaction run as JavaScript in your browser. Your resume never reaches our servers and nothing is stored once you close the tab.
Why do I have to type my own name?
Because detecting a person's name in free text is unreliable, and a redactor that misses your name is worse than useless. Emails, phones, links, and addresses follow predictable patterns and are detected automatically. Names do not, so you tell it.
Will it catch every identifying detail?
No, and you should not treat it as if it will. It removes the standard identifiers. It cannot know that a rare job title, a small former employer, or a named side project identifies you just as clearly. Always read the output before sharing it.
Do I get a redacted PDF back?
No, you get plain text. Redacting a PDF properly means rebuilding it, and a PDF with a black box drawn over text still contains that text underneath, which is how real redaction failures happen. Plain text has nothing hidden in it.
Are years and numbers removed too?
No. Only digit sequences of nine or more are treated as phone numbers, so dates, durations, percentages, and achievement figures stay intact.
Can I remove things other than my name?
Yes. The names field takes any comma-separated list, so you can add a former employer, a client name, a product, or a university. Each entry is matched whole and case-insensitively.
